Since 1992, VOICES has sponsored a community
chorus founded to provide dedicated singers with the opportunity to perform
outstanding choral works at an unusually high artistic level.
In addition to performing choral
masterworks, VOICES works with contemporary composers on music which represents
the spirit and vitality of our time.
VOICES provides life-long learning through
classes in vocal technique, music theory and sight singing.
Weekly rehearsals intersperse historical
information and interpretive skills with disciplined practice essential to fine
performance.
Collaborations with musicians from other
cultures and age groups allow for interchange on social and musical
levels.
In 1999 Sotto Voce, a chamber choir, was
formed to provide additional opportunity for small ensemble singing. Sotto Voce
is a select group of singers who share an interest in singing vocal chamber
music at a distinctive performance level. The group of 24-26 singers rehearses
usually twice each month. Membership is by audition. Repertoire includes
unaccompanied part songs, chamber music, madrigals, Bach cantatas, and works by
contemporary composers. If you are interested in rigorous and satisfying
chamber work, please talk to the conductor about membership. |
