This weekend: Choral music with finger-snapping energy!!!

Dear Friends,

VOICES Music of the Americas concertsWe are thrilled about our upcoming concerts this weekend! They will close out a wonderfully eclectic 2003/04 season.

Music of the Americas brings choral music with finger snapping "new world" energy to audiences in Princeton on June 5 (Princeton United Methodist Church at 8:00PM), and Morrisville, PA on June 6 (First Presbyterian Church of Morrisville at 4:00PM).

We hope you will bring the whole family to enjoy this variety of folk, contemporary and jazz inspired works from North and South America.

Among the delights:

Coast Salish Medley: Six Slahal (Bone Game) Songs. These traditional gaming songs come from the native peoples of the Northwest Coast of Canada.

Yo Le Canto Todo El Dia, a Venezuelan song contains infectious rhythms and playful, dancing melodies.

Two hauntingly beautiful compositions: Lua, Lua, Lua, a Brazilian song based on a poem to a January moon, and Barber's Sure on this Shining Night, a stirring ode to a summer's night.

..and PREMIERES of SIX new pieces—by and for children!!!

William Cutter at VOICES rehearsalAlso on the program is the premiere of Polka Bats and Octopus Slacks, four delightful, jazzy pieces composed by M.I.T's William Cutter based on the children's book by Calef Brown. The work was commissioned by VOICES for our 15th anniversary. Sotto Voce had the pleasure of rehearsing with Bill Cutter last week.

2004 Children's Composition WorkshopLynne Ransom and members of VOICES held a children's music composition workshop in April and invited children to create and submit musical compositions. The contributions were outstanding. The two selected winners will be announced and honored at the concerts.
